REPORT OF ISD TELECONFERENCE
AUGUST 23, 2001
By Sharryn Ross, Chair, ISD Liaison Committee

1. L-1 Visa Processing Times. In response to reports by members that L-1s are taking considerably more than 30 days, INS was asked if there been a change in the policy to stick to the 30 day processing time. INS responded that there is no change in policy, but the increased processing times is a result of the ripple effect of the frontlog in many centers, and hopefully this will be corrected shortly.

2. Premium Processsing Telephone Lines. In response to our inquiry about a glitch in the telephone system for Premium Processing which fails to identify the case as a Premium Processing case in some instances, INS responded that the issue is being looked into. Members are advised that if this problem does arise in a specific case, they should use the email system to contact the Service Center instead of the telephone number.

3. Training of examiners for L-1B cases. In response to our concern that training on L-1B status being conducted using standards that are too rigid, INS responded that this is not the case.

4. V visas. Although some members were told by officers at the INS 800 number that they can now file V applications, this information is incorrect. Further, INS is working with the DOS to share a database extract so that DOS will have proof of the filing of the I-130 other than the INS receipt.
