It is defined as special knowledge possessed by an individual of the petitioning organization's product, service, research, equipment, techniques, management, or other interests and its application in international markets, or an advanced level of knowledge or expertise in the organization's processes and procedures.

What requirements are there for filing L-1B visa?

    1. The parent company is a running international company.

    2. The subsidiary in the United States is also in operation.

    3. The beneficiary is currently employed in a specialized knowledge capacity at the parent company.

    4. The beneficiary is a person with specialized knowledge.

How long can an L-1B holder stay in the United States?

Initially three years, with extension to five years.

    How about L-1B's family members?

Family members of L-1B workers are given L-2 status.   Under the new law (enacted on January 16, 2002), L-1B's family members can obtain an employment authorization ("EAD") by filing the application with the required fee and evidence of his or her relationship to the principal alien, then they start to work in the United States! (this was not the case before January 16, 2002).
