Why Does Mr. Kim Need An Immigration Lawyer?

Mr. Kim is a businessman.  He planned to come to the United States for business purposes.  He understands the general prospective of dealing with the U.S. visa, immigration procedures and policy.  Such as, the United States has opened its doors to foreign businesses and businessmen.  Often, the doors are too many, duplicated and complicated.  A foreign businessman  did not know from which door he should enter and which door is the best way to achieve his goal.  Some doors are short, one-way channels, some doors are long, rocky pathways.  Wrong choices will cost the applicants time and money as well as failure of his original business plan or purpose.  Just like running a business, a visit to the United States needs a planning.  A good strategy helps achieve his business goal and other plans, such as a longer stay or adjustment of status to permanent residence. Let's assume:

Mr. Kim is a businessman from the People Republic of China.   He wants to investigate the business environment in the southeastern United States and open a business there if possible.  What choices can he have?  He can apply for B visa, H visa, L visa, J visa, O visa or a few others.

If  Mr. Kim is a businessman from South Korea, and he wants to do the same as what the Chinese businessman intends to do, he will have more choices that the Chinese businessman has.  In addition to above visas, he may enter the United States under the E visas (treaty trader and treaty investor).

If Mr. Kim is a businessman from Japan, he can obtain multiple business entry visa.  Or he even come to the United States as a pleasure visitor without first obtaining a visa.  But he can stay in the United States no longer than 90 days and cannot change to other status.

If Mr. Kim wants his wife to stay with him during his trip in the United States, he has to apply for another visa.

If Mr. Kim decides to stay in the United States for a much longer period or permanently, he has to change or adjust to another status.

Unless Mr. Kim had some knowledge of U.S. immigration law or is confident in doing-immigration-by-himself, he will need an immigration lawyer to help him.   What Mr. Kim cares about most, is not merely about money, it is about the time.   Time is money!  Mr. Kim cannot afford to have his case returned for supplemental information or denied due to some technical defects.
